Maybe it's the approach of spring, but I've been gripped with the urge to install Linux on random old computers (is this some mutant form of spring cleaning?). This works out great, because I have plenty of old computers kicking around my house. Just this morning, I was eyeing my Indy and thinking about how I could savagely violate the pristine install of Irix that graces its 2GB hard drive. What better way than Debian? A few seconds on Google, and I came up with this page. One more mouse click, and I found some instructions for setting up a Debian server to blow my SGI a kiss in the form of a tftp'd kernel.
So, I pressed the sewing machine into service and let 'er rip. I'm watching the Debian install crank along and wondering how easy it will be to install X11 and whether the built-in video capture card will work under Linux. That's what this kind of adventure is all about, anyhow.
