Bluetooth LAN Access success. I got my Palm on the network today, with no wires. Previously, I had tried to set up my laptop as a LAN access point, but a combination of overall cruftiness and driver difficulties led me to try my desktop PC, which is running a fairly fresh install of Windows 2000. Here's what I did:
- Changed my home network LAN addresses from 192.168.0.x to 192.168.254.x, because the former conflicts with Windows' Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).
- Installed the Belkin Bluetooth software on my Windows 2000 PC.
- Shared my Windows 2000 PC's LAN connected to the Bluetooth LAN connection (this connection appears on your computer after you install the drivers).
- Fired up my Palm m125, opened the Bluetooth application, and searched for a LAN Access Point. My Windows 2000 PC appeared, but it had the wrong name. This is because I used the same Bluetooth adapter on my laptop, which my Palm had previously paired with.
- Deleted the file "Bluetooth Device Cache" from my Palm and rebooted the Palm just to be safe.
- Went back through the search for the LAN Access Point, and it found my PC again, this time with the right name.
- Provided my Windows user id and password.
- I then launched the closest thing to a web browser that my Palm has, the WAP browser that came with the Palm Bluetooth software. I pointed it at http://wap.google.com.
Success!
