Some more feedback on the article, from Mark Wilcox, who points out that I missed some important Sleepycat features:
  • "It doesn't require you to use just single key-value pairs. You can associate multiple values to a single key
  • It will organize data either as hash, btree or record number
  • It provides transaction support & db recoverability (Netscape/Sun uses this extensively in their Directory server)"
Mark also points out that Sleepycat's DB is very fast. Thanks, Mark!

More feedback on my Linux Magazine article: "FYI, they're called relational databases because their operations are based on relational calculus, not because they allow you to relate information from different tables." [Steve Schmidt] Steve's right, I was wrong. Looking back, I see that I've done this in other writings. In the corner of my mind, I know the correct definition, but when I put the words down on paper, I sometimes connect dots that shouldn't be connected (Thanks, Steve, for pointing this out).
