“…Naturally, the big broadcasters opposed it, saying it would cause
more interference. They appealed to Congress, which severely restricted
deployment of LPFM until an interference study could be done. Now that

East Coast (Southern New England) Geek Dinner

Thursday, March 11th, 2004

Rory and I have
been planning a nerd/geek dinner for this coming Friday (March 12) at
6:30pm. We’ve settled on the Providence Place Mall food court, and you’re all
invited. Apologies for the short notice, and we promise advance warning
next time!

Update: A couple people have asked me why we’d choose the
Providence Place Mall food court. I’ve been to one of the Scoble-organized geek dinners at a food court, and it works
great for a number of reasons:

  • No need for head count (scales really well)
  • People can come whenever they want
  • People can leave whenever they want (no waiting around for the check)
  • Not a problem for out-of-work geeks
  • People don’t feel that they have to eat; they can just get a coffee
  • The center of attention is people, not food.
