Gigamensch Gnip Gnop

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

Shawn Wallace has started posting some of his wonderful and interactive works of art/hacks over at his AS220 blog. I’m really fascinated by the Gigamensch Gnip Gnop:

Smash the buttons to send the balls flying through the
ancient walls of Uruk. Be the first player to free yourself from the
thirteen tribulations and you win! You’re the Gigamensch!

The Party of the Year, 2004-Style

Friday, May 21st, 2004

One day until the Fools Ball!

It’s Spring, and that means it’s time for another Fools Ball at AS220.
To first-time visitors, AS220
is
a black and yellow awning on Empire Street in Providence. If you
step in the door, you’ll see a cafe, a stage, and a couple of galleries.
With very few exceptions, AS220 has something going on every
day. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as they say. The Fools
Ball House Party is a great way to immerse yourself in AS220 for a few
hours and get a taste of everything it supports and has to offer.

AS220 Fools Ball 2004, Providence May 22

Sunday, March 7th, 2004

AS220:
“AS220 is proud to announce the tenth anniversary of the Fools Ball, our
annual signature gala event, bringing five days of revelry to the Downtown
Arts and Entertainment District, from May 18th though 22nd.
Ticket prices this year are $125 for the Sponsors Reception, which begins
at 6 PM and includes dinner and a special souvenir created by RISD artists,
and $25 for the House Party, which begins at 9 PM.

We invite you to a premier house party, an expanded celebration jam-packed
with performances, carnival games, dancing, and sumptuous food and drink.
This year, our theme is the Harlem Renaissance, with a festival inspired by
great American artists such as Langston Hughes, Bessie Smith, Josephine
Baker, Paul Robeson, and James Van Der Zee, among others.”

This is a great party–quite possibly the greatest party of the year. If
you’re going to be within range of Providence the night of the House Party,
you should not be anywhere else. And if you’re not within range of
Providence, I promise it will be worth your time to visit out here.

Sex Worker’s Art Show @AS220

Monday, February 2nd, 2004

AS220
Calendar
: “The show is an eye-popping evening of visual and
performance art created by people who work in the sex industry to dispel
the myth that they are anything short of artists, innovators and
geniuses! Hitting the road again after last year’s wildly successful
national tour, the Sex
Worker’s Art Show
brings audiences a mesmerizing
cabaret-style event featuring music, spoken word, burlesque, video,
badass poetry, and other performance art; as well as a visual art
display that travels with the show. The artwork and performances offer a
wide range of perspectives on sex work, from celebration of prostitution
and sex-positivity to views from the darker side of the industry.”
