Backup
Brain
: “the W3C it ain’t.” (Amazing…you’d think that Dvorak
could afford a fact-checker or maybe even take the time to check stuff
himself)

Verizon Wireless Annoyances

Monday, December 13th, 2004

As I’ve
written before
, I’m a Verizon Wireless BroadbandAccess
customer. This confuses Verizon Wireless in usually harmless ways–I’ll
often get a flyer in my bill that’s clearly meant for voice customers.
But the past two weeks have gotten super annoying. I’ve gotten calls
from Verizon Wireless that start out with the typical request to speak
to Brian Jepson. Then a pause… the caller can’t figure out what
BroadbandAccess is, but they know it’s not a voice offering. The first
guy got it quickly–he said he was sorry for calling, since the offer
(I’m guessing a new phone with a contract extension) was only for voice
customers.

The second guy hung up as my stepson was handing me the phone, and
today’s rep was really confused. I had to explain that BroadbandAccess
was a data service, and he got it, but couldn’t explain why they kept
calling me (except that the computer dials me automatically).
I wish they had a better handle on what they were doing. I’ve long felt
that the cellular operators, with their high prices and confusing terms of
service (am I allowed to do anything other than fetch email and surf the
web?), don’t know what the customer wants (hint: > 144 KBps up and down,
all ports open, for $50 a month flat rate).

think I’ll play around with it for a while.
