The Tao of
Mac: “As always, the amount of work involved in making tech
successful is mostly focused in making it unobtrusive. Not quite
invisible, but simple, reliable, and above all, with zero hassle.”
JerryRubin: An Emergency Letter to My Brothers and Sisters in the Movement: “From the Bay Area to New York, we are suffering the greatest depression in our history. People are taking bitterness in their coffee instead of sugar.” |
Jeremy
Zawodny: “RSS may not be perfect, but it’s good enough. That train
left the station quite a while ago.”
This
HowardForums thread suggests we might see it in six months.

What were they thinking? PETA rented a billboard in one of the most
Catholic places on earth, and put up an image of the Virgin Mary
cradling a dead chicken. I think it’s beautifully surreal, but I don’t
think PETA was thinking about raising the weirdness level when they did
this. I think they genuinely thought they’d change some minds about meat
consumption. More power to ‘em even if they changed one mind, but they
shouldn’t be surprised that a lot of people freaked out about it.
Shit, though, this gets me thinking. $3000 isn’t bad to blast a
custom bizarre message to the people of Rhode Island and nearby
Massachusetts for a month. I’m thinking of the slogan we used in
college “Don’t Breathe Too Deeply.” It’s damn good advice no matter how
you interpret it…

I’ve been corresponding with
Timothy Stone about the instructions
for Mac OS X startup items in Mac OS X for Unix
Geeks. Yesterday, he sent me the photo that appears to the right.
Tim was reading my biography, which mentions the coffehouse I ran while
I was there. Turns out that his wife did a stint at the University of
Rhode Island, and has a Cafe de la Tete mug to show for it. What a
small world!
I’m getting ready to upgrade to a 15″ PowerBook, so I’ll be leaving the ranks
of 12″ users pretty soon. To ease the burden on my wallet, I’m selling a few
things. Here are some things I’ve put up on eBay:
Here’s some stuff that’s going up on eBay soon, unless someone makes an offer
