That Annoying 3650 iSync Error

Tuesday, November 11th, 2003

Where else, but in a weblog named 3650
and a 12-inch
, would you expect to find some insight into that error
(”App. closed AppArcServerThread”) message that pops up on some users’
Nokia 3650s (including mine) during iSync?

ATTWS EDGE up in Southern RI?

Wednesday, November 5th, 2003

I just got 6.09 kilobytes per second on a 1.4MB zip file that I
downloaded using my EDGE-capable Nokia 6200 as a modem (with my ATTWS
SIM and only 3 bars). I tried the same with my T-Mobile SIM (also
getting 3 bars), and I got 2.85 kilobytes per second. I switched to the
DKU-5 data cable so I could better position the phone, and tried the
ATTWS SIM again (wavering between 3-5 bars). When I did that, I got an
impressive 8.82 kilobytes per second. That’s between 50 and 70 kilobits
per second, much more than the 20-30 kilobits per second I’d been
getting with GPRS in the past.

Rotor on Panther

Tuesday, November 4th, 2003

Eric has patched Rotor to compile under Panther. This is great news–I’d been using the binaries I compiled on Jaguar, but I’ve been itching to rebuild under 10.3’s toolchain.

Nokia 6200 and Mac: Together At Last?

Monday, November 3rd, 2003

I just got a note from Smith
Micro
: “You recently requested support for the Nokia 6200 in
QuickLink Mobile for Macintosh. Your AT&T Wireless phone is now
supported. You can purchase the product from our website at: http://www.smithmicro.com/products/buy.tpl?product=QLMMAC.”
I have had absolutely no luck with the DKU-5 and the
Mac. I think I’ll give QuickLink Mobile a try…
