Who Got th’ Crack?

Thursday, July 31st, 2003

For some reason, this song title popped into my head about a week ago, and
I’ve been trying to remember who did it. It finally popped into my head while
I was sitting at a computer, and a Google Search on that phrase turns up an article about
that band, the Reverb Motherfuckers. Now it’s all coming back to me. The
album was Route
666
and was absolutely fantastic from beginning to end. (update: I
still have a copy of it… w00t! … now I just need a turntable…
)

Morning Owl

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

(Found this fellow in my backyard this morning: 2,384 KB QuickTime video)

Update: We’ve been hearing a screeching/wheezing sound late at
night that we couldn’t identify. This page (from
OwlCam) has a recording, wheeze
(16weeks)
that sounds like what we’ve been hearing. (BTW, we saw
two Owls in the tree this morning, even though I only caught one in the
video).

Update: here’s the 3GPP version.

Windows XP Unwired

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

I’m just going over the final page proofs for Wei-Meng Lee’s Windows XP Unwired, and I’m getting pretty excited about the
book. I hope it’s as much fun for people to read as it was for me to edit! Here’s the catalog page; be sure to check out the sample chapter on
GPS (you can also find the TOC in there).

of a stretch. As vague or clear as you can be, but please no huge caves
lined with velvet, also no bears.” (Sunday, August 3, 2003: 8pm)

Advocates for Arts in the Mill

Sunday, July 27th, 2003

I put this up a while ago, but forgot to blog it. Here’s a little background: there’s a group in
Peace Dale (of which I’m a member) who is pushing for an AS220-ish arts center in the Palisades mill complex. I
shot some video of the initial
meeting
(8MB).

Rocky for Sale

Sunday, July 27th, 2003

While I was on vacation last week, I got to thinking about old Rocky Point. I made a mental note
to check eBay for any Rocky Point crap when I got back home (yes, I was traveling without a
computer :-). And holy crap, what did I find but Rocky
himself
. (As an added bonus, here’s a Rocky Point fan site: http://www.rockypointpark.com/).

Getting away from it all

Saturday, July 19th, 2003

Tomorrow we leave for a week of relaxation in the mountains of southwestern
Maine. I won’t have network access during that time (and I think that’s a
good thing), but I plan to bring my digital camera and camcorder, so I hope
to have some interesting videos and/or images to share when I return.
